personally, i am getting quite excited about the big event this year and there are many reasons why. here is a little sample of what “passport to party” will include:

  • fortune tellers – crystal balls don’t lie
  • great bands – The Menus and RadioActive will beat up the beat
  • AMP 150 – for you select VIP peeps
  • Absolut ice bar – yes, please
  • sno cone machine – maybe some of that vodka will accidentally fall into my cone
  • free t-shirt – everyone gets a 20th anniversary JBB shirt!

when i first heard this slick beat while listening to one my pandora stations, i was immediately hooked. consequently, i also started busting a move on my living room floor as i completed my typical saturday cleaning session.

my current obsession for this song is largely due to the fact of the sampled nu shooz’s “i can’t wait” hit from 1986. and when you think about it, this old skool jam is still pretty darn catchy!

please enjoy the following tunes and feel free to let loose. you know you want too.

last week kicked my ascot. after going out basically every night last week, this past weekend was full of not going out (except for dinner on friday at latitude 41 and the boat show on sunday, topped off by a bzone sunday dinner).

during this semi-lazy weekend, the nug and i discussed some topics of interest that i assume other dinks also cover at any given moment.

what is this dink word you speak of? double income no kids.

since we are still both fairly young gents, we don’t make oodles of dolla dolla bills, but we do live very comfortably. that said, we have a tad more expendable income to be used at our discretion. and let’s not forget the insane cost of living in this wonderful land of cle – bonus!

as tax return time comes upon us, we typically have some plan of attack. this year is a little different because we both would like new cars. if you recall, my “need vs. want” post from august totally defeats the purpose of my current way of thinking.

here are some of the issues we dinks face:

  • why spend money on a new car when the current one works perfectly fine?
  • do you go big or go home (i.e., audi vs. honda)?
  • what about all the furniture and art i still want to buy for my dwelling?
  • i do want to go on that european trip. and vegas. and the virgin islands.
  • oh, just one more (i.e., words spoken at every happy hour/restaurant outing).
  • shouldn’t we be smart and just save for a healthy retirement?
  • oh, look! nordstrom is having their 1/2 yearly sale!

i know that there are many more questions than the ones previously stated, but these are the ones going through my head right now. am i the only one with these questions/issues? please advise.

i used to make fun of foursquare. i used to make fun of the early adopters who began using foursquare. and now i have found myself slightly obsessed with this little game that has turned into a pretty hot commodity.

while some may consider this social media app stalker-esque, i find it to be more of a convenience.

for example:

last week i had dinner at dragonfly lounge, checked-in and received a free miso soup with the special offer via foursquare.

two days ago, i checked into dragonfly again (which was supposed to place me at the mayorship title and i failed because of that damn andrew s.) and another friend texted me because she saw my check-in while she was at the old angle tavern across the street. now some may find this a little creepy, but this could have been a missed opportunity to hang out with a friend if she hadn’t seen my foursquare check-in.

consequently, i have also been coordinating happy hours and dinners at places i frequent in the hopes of becoming mayor. is this sad? i think it may be. but for those of you also addicted to foursquare, you probably are on my side.

due to the heavy amount of social activities last week surrounding my 24th 25th 26th birthday, i def neglected this here blog. that said, i must provide a review/commentary of all the places i visited over the past week. let’s go!

  • Deagan’s Kitchen & Bar – after hearing so many good reviews via word-of-mouth and the internets, i decided to make deagan’s my official bday dinner spot. my entire immediate family was present, including nugget, who once again created a personal greeting card for my enjoyment (i have received personally designed cards from nug since 2003, which should be a whole separate post). i decided to go the small plate route, which ended up being more food than i could handle. i ordered the brussel sprouts, moroccan meatballs and peking duck confit mac-n-cheese, all of which were served piping hot. we were not disappointed one bit. i can’t wait to go back for 1/2 off wine monday and taco tuesday. who is coming with!?!
  • Battery Park Wine Bar (BPWB) – to complete my bday evening, nug, moe and i trotted over to bpwb for a couple glasses of champagne. aside from the flavorful apps and flatbreads, they really provide you with a heavy pour, which is always welcomed. i can’t say enough about that staff as well — so incredibly kind. they even threw in a free glass for my special day. this place is seriously becoming my fav new cle hangout.
  • Great Lakes Brewing Company – a little beer accompanied a productive aaf meeting with the 32 below group. can’t go wrong with a little burning river ale.
  • Dragonfly Lounge – with lzone in hand, i was treated to a post bday dinner at this very sexy ohio city spot. having gone a few times prior, this time was a little different because the house kitchen now offers a full menu, consisting mainly of sushi and red meat. lzone ordered an array of sushi and i ordered the delmonico steak with demi glaze and bacon lardons, baked potato and asparagus with hollandaise. i also received a free miso soup, complements of the foursquare check-in!
  • Plum’s Palace – while this isn’t a legit dining establishment, one may disagree. after this past nye as well as this past friday night, i have come to the conclusion that alexa can actually cook! included in her spread was a mandarin orange and almond salad, au gratin potatoes, curry chicken lettuce wraps and pork tenderloin sandwiches. the meal was terrific. the company was even better. and i love living across the street from my sweet plum.
  • Lava Lounge – after waking up at 1:30 pm (so what, who cares?) and cleaning most of the day, i needed some grub. so nug and i headed to one of our fav tremont locations for their addictive pomme frites, cheese burgers and lava dew martinis. i am pretty sure its the sweet red onion jam and havarti cheese that make this burger so freakin’ delicious. it is truly the only burger i order in the city.

another busy week is ahead and i already have multiple dinner plans on the agenda. sometimes i wonder if i should not buy a new car and just keep that monthly payment to put towards my cle dining addiction. ehh…

i need some love.

last week i was thinking about ways to attract some additional readers/followers/stalkers/lovers/frenemies. one obvi way to do just this is by having some form of a contest or giveaway. most bloggers do this, so why wouldn’t i? doesn’t everyone want something for free!?!

so for everyone that comments on this post, you will receive one free HUG! yes, that’s right — one giant, heart-warming, cozy hug. and if things go well, you may be eligible for a prolonged hug, also known as a cuddle.

why a hug? because i need them this week. it is my birthday this wednesday and i am one year closer to the horrid age of 30. i know, i know. everyone i talk to says your 30s are the greatest decade of your life, but i am in complete disagreement.

so there will be no parties or elaborate gatherings for me this week. all i need is hugs. so everyone can reassure to me that everything will be alright.

i truly felt like a grade school kid last night. i basically stumbled around the house and whined about the fact that i had to wake up early this morning. these childish actions were clearly spawned from the crazy good nye weekend i had. rewind it, flip it and reverse it!

thursday – a little shopping with the cousins at white bread crocker park, followed by a stop at tj’s butcher block in lakewood to pick up a slab of meat comparable in size to the one in the flintstone’s opening sequence, and closed the night off with a visit to reddstone for the new year’s eve eve holla days festival of awesomeness hosted by the lovely lzone and plum. shout out to new cle blogger, why cle? who was also in attendance.

friday – cleaning like a fool in preparation for our first progressive dinner party, which ended being a huge success. the night started at alexa’s where we had delicious cocktails and hearty apps of awesomeness. afterwards, the group headed to our place for the entree portion of the night. we served pork loin with winter fruits, port and bacon, green beans with almonds and pommes frites. the tour ended at hartzell’s where he served chocolate dipped fruits and goodies with a side of moscow mule. we toasted the new year at battery park wine bar and danced the night away in a sea of friends. perfection.

alexa and dom. besties.

table settings are sexy.

our little menu on a paper bag. cheap chic, yo.

love this pic.

saturday – sleep, sleep and more sleep. cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning. dinner at the parkview nite club.

sunday – a whole lot of nothing.
